Love designer wallpaper but looking for that ´je ne sais quoi´ that high street brands just don´t deliver? Well, here at Wales at Home, we´ve found just the thing…and what we´re really excited about it the Welsh heritage of the ingenious designer, Michael Angove.
From coastal town, Barry in South Wales, we recently spotted Michael´s stunning and unique wallpaper at 100% Design show and nearly fell over ourselves when we discovered our common ground. Creating exquisite, hand-crafted Chinoiserie wallpapers and fabrics from specimens of flora and fauna, Michael typically works to specific customer requirements with wallpaper being gilded with up to 24 ct gold or platinum, although a small collection of Chinoiserie designs in support of his bespoke service is available to customers with each of the four designs, Panel, Border, All Over and Column, available in four different colourways; prices start from £35 per meter.
Recently featured in the likes of the Mail on Sunday, YOU magazine and House and Garden, the designer´s critical acclaim - winning many awards including the ´Liberty Print Award´ and the Marks and Spencers ´Ground Breaking Award´ - as well as having a Masters in Printed Textiles from the Royal College of Art, speaks for itself and our favourite wallpaper design? It would have to be ´Porthkerry´ of course, from his ´Grasses´ collection…inspired by local Welsh scenery we don´t think wallpaper gets better than this.
