‘Ty Cariad’, Welsh for ‘beloved house’ or ‘darling house', reflects all the love and attention that went into renovating this stylish holiday cottage nestled in the foothills of the Cambrian mountains, providing a relaxing retreat and a chance to recuperate to the sound of birdsong.
With an interior designed to rival the best holiday cottages, with that snug 'home from home' feeling, plus 'all the trimmings', Ty Cariad is cradled in the side of the valley above the village of Pontrhydygroes, where you can sit by the log burner and watch the red kites soaring over the valley below. Located just three miles from the wonderful waterfalls at Devils’s Bridge, there are plenty of jaw dropping views to enjoy for the more outwardly inclined - providing the perfect base from which to plan an invigorating ramble/cycle/stroll in the forests and hills. It's also just a 20 minute drive through the historic Hafod Estate and through Cwm Ystwyth, then over the mountain road to reach the beautiful Elan valley or the same in the opposite direction for beach lovers, to the Cardigan coastline, where the coastal path has recently been extended.
National Cycling route no. 81, that goes through the village, has been described as among the most beautiful in the country, and nature lovers, anglers and birdwatchers will also find plenty to occupy their time here. Alongside a stunning view out over the valley, there is a desk area with shelves for writers and artists to find inspiration in a tranquil setting, and a well-stocked bookcase with boardgames, wifi broadband, Sky TV and DVD player. The kitchen is well-equipped and includes a dishwasher and washer/tumble dryer.
Ty Cariad sleeps up to five and has a main bedroom with a kingsize four-poster bed, and a second bedroom with both a double and a single bed. The character of the cottage has been maintained, with additional details from tiled mosaics, oak floors, and cast-iron radiators, to bakerlite style switches, vintage crockery and antique fittings. A large oak-framed porch can accommodate two bicycles.
Prices are from £285 per week in low season, and we thoroughly recommend it as a cosy winter retreat. We welcome pets and provide bowls and blanket. There is a winter fuel supplement for oil central heating and a basket of logs.
