Wales at Home Editor, Nicola Wilkes, admits that with images this good who cares that the édition PAUMES range of quirky interiors books are written in Japanese?
´It was on a recent trip to designer, Kate Clarkson´s home in West Wales (owner of brand new and uber cool online boutique, Moozle Home) that I first clapped eyes one of many books from Japanese publishers, Paume. ´You just have to see it,´ said Kate who thrust a well thumbed ´Kid´s bedrooms in Paris´ edition in front of me, complete with a token cuppa, leaving me in peace to absorb the visual delight before me.
I have to admit that for the first five minutes of drooling over the quirky but stylish, inspirational but relaxed interiors photography that makes up these little packages of pure design delight I didn´t even consider that I couldn´t read the text…for these are artistic feasts for any design hungry, interiors enthusiast out there and needless to say, I started my very own collection ´pronto´.
Forming a creative link between Tokyo and Europe, the small, family run Japanese publishers, Paumes, says their books ´explore the environments of those who stimulate the creative industries, and in doing has produced a set of creative “bibles” that overflow with inspiration,´ and a quick flick through any of their 27 titles (and growing) will prove their point.
And my book of choice? ´London Ateliers´ by Paumes, has been perched on my desk for a few weeks now, a five minute tea break spent oogling over the workshops of Donna Wilson, Kathleen Hills, Lisa Stickley and Susannah Hunter to name just a few…
