ECO CHIC WITH DULUX

Re-painting furniture to give it a brand new look is not only one of the most satisfying interiors tricks but also extremely eco-friendly in an age where we all try to reduce our carbon footprint.

Here at Wales at Home we particularly like Dulux´s range of primers and satinwood paints, perfect for bringing old furniture back to life - whether it´s a complete overhaul or quick refresh, meaning one more piece of stylish furniture in your home and one less item on the rubbish tip.

Putting the ´Make do and mend´ mantra from bygone days, [first published in the UK in 1943 by the Ministry of Information], to the test, we suggest looking at what you´ve already got and giving it a top to toe makeover. You´ll be surprised as well as smug when friends and family ask you where you bought that stylish new chest of drawers or who stocks that repainted pine dining table that is now every inch of Scandi-chic!

Whether it´s a soft shade of cream or sultry gold paint which can be prettied up with crystal effect handles; or a shocking pink or bright yellow for a child´s room that will blend in with any other items of furniture you may already have; it´s as simple as sanding away the old varnish, giving it a coat of a primer such as Dulux´s Multisurface Primer, and finishing off with a colour of your choice – again, I like the Light and Space Quick Dry Satinwood from Dulux, available from all major DIY stores.
